So, I convinced a couple people to join me on this journey, I waited for school to get out, and I hit the road!
Amanda and I took off from Washington on Friday - ahem - afternoon. We drove all the way through to Missoula, Montana on that first night. The motel we stayed at was decent. Very clean and the room was huge with a couch and refrigerator! Not more than 2 minutes after we had turned off the lights and Amanda said she was so tired she could sleep through a train, we heard a train blast! We laughed out loud and got quiet again to sleep. Maybe 3 minutes later the train's whistle blew again - even closer - and we both deteriorated into that crazy delirious laughter! We finally unwound and slept.
We stopped in Bozeman to visit the Museum of the Rockies. This is something I wanted to do the last time I drove through here 11 years ago. It was well worth the $13 to get in! Loved the huge display of T-Rex and Triceratops skeletons! They have an amazing planetarium and a display on Leonardo daVinci's machines. We hit the road again and drove until we got to the site of Custer's Last Stand. It was kind of neat because we got in late enough that we didn't have to pay the entrance fee. Had a great conversation with a ranger who actually is familiar with Port Townsend, and enjoyed a nice drive around the park. I guess I never really realized that this was a site of victory for the Native Americans. It was short-lived, but a victory nonetheless.
We are now in Sheridan, Wyoming. Found the Kingdom Hall for meeting tomorrow, had dinner, and are now getting rested for another day on the road! Devil's Tower and South Dakota attractions, here we come!
